Robotic Surgery

Robotic Surgery

It is a technique in which the surgeon performs the surgical procedure on a panel that remotely controls very small instruments fixed to a robot.

During this procedure, the surgeon sits in a station to one side of the patient (the surgeon’s panel) from where they direct the movement of the robot. Another part of the system is comprised of a table with a column and robotic arms to which the surgical instruments are fixed.

To perform any procedure of this type, the patient has to be under general anesthesia; first the surgeon inserts the instruments into the patient’s body through small incisions. Always under the surgeon’s guidance, the robot mimics the movements of the physician’s hand to perform the procedure.

Benefit:

  • Quicker recovery.
  • Considerably less pain.
  • Reduced risk of infection.
  • Reduced loss of blood.
  • Less blood transfusions.
  • Smaller scars.
  • Fast return to everyday activities.
  • Shorter hospital stays.
  • Smaller risk of complications.
Urology

Urology

Urology is the specialty area responsible for treating conditions of the urinary tract and the male genital system, including the adrenal glands, kidneys, ureter, bladder, prostate, seminal tracts, urethra, pelvic floor structures, penis, scrotum, testicles, and epididymis.

Tests and procedures performed by the Urology specialist:

  • Urodynamics
  • Uroflowmetry
  • Testicular Ultrasound
  • Urinary Tract Ultrasound
  • Prostate Ultrasound
  • Prostate Biopsy
  • Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate HoLEP (Prostate Laser Surgery)
  • Robotic Surgery for Prostate Cancer
  • Robotic Partial Nephrectomy
  • Complex Urinary Kidney Stone Surgery
  • Artificial Urinary Sphincter
  • Erectile Disfunction Surgery (Penis Prosthesis)
  • Urethral Reconstructive Surgery
HoLEP

HoLEP

The Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate is a minimally invasive surgical treatment used for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. To-date, it is currently considered as the golden standard surgery, even over the Transurethral Resection of Prostate Surgery (RTUP). As its name indicates, this procedure is performed using a Holmium Laser, a pulsating laser that fires several times per second through the urethra, reaching the prostate, and allowing the removal of all the prostatic adenoma.

Being a minimally invasive procedure it has several great advantages, such as a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery, a lower bleeding index, an earlier removal of the urinary catheter, less probability of later interventions due to tissue regrowth, among others.

Urogynecology

Urogynecology

Urogynecology is a subspecialty of Urology and/or of Gynecology. This area is responsible for treating female pelvic organ conditions and the muscles and connective tissue that supports it.

The most common conditions solved by this area are:

  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Hyperactive Bladder
  • Fecal Incontinence
  • Prolapse of Pelvic Organs (prolapse of the vagina, bladder, uterus, or other organs on the pelvic floor)

General surgery with broad experience on repairing Inguinal Hernia. This is a hernia formed in the inguinal region caused by the weakening of the inguinal wall due to various reasons, such as lifting heavy objects, congenital reasons, weight increase, chronical coughing, pregnancies, prostatic problems, chronical constipation, among others. Of all the existent hernias, this is the most common type, as 2% of the world population will have this condition at one stage of their lives. These hernias can also be present through the testicles in men, and over the uterus ligaments in women. These can be present on one or both sides of the groin. The best option is to repair them shortly after being diagnosed, as these have a tendency to grow and increase in size, where the risk of surgery increases and the recovery time is prolonged. In consequence, if you have just been diagnosed, visit your GoHealth surgeon as soon as possible for an examination.

Inguinal Hernia Surgery

Inguinal Hernia Surgery

There are 2 types of solutions: Open or traditional surgery, and by Laparoscopy or Minimally Invasive Surgery. On the traditional surgery, the procedure is performed conventionally and consists of closing the tissue and, in many cases, placing a mesh or prosthetic material to strengthen the abdominal wall, preventing the further development of or the formation of another hernia in the future. The advantage of this procedure is that it is less expensive, but it has the great disadvantage of being more painful, and the recovery time being longer.

The Laparoscopic or Minimally Invasive Surgery is performed through small openings and assisted by video, in which the defects are closed and mesh is placed in order to reinforce the wall. The advantage is a faster recovery to everyday life and less pain, but the disadvantage is that it is a more expensive procedure.

Your GoHealth surgeon will explain specific details to you, such as: if you are a candidate for surgery, which kind of surgery you are an eligible candidate, and the associated costs and benefits of the suggested surgical methods.

Joint Replacement Surgery

Joint Replacement Surgery

The total replacement of the joint is one of the safest and most reliable treatments of any areas in Medicine. This type of surgery is recommended for patients with joint conditions in their last stages (usually for the knee or hip) that were previously treated without surgery, but that still present functional decrease and incapacitating pain. The joint replacement is an extremely efficient surgery when performed at the right time.

On the Joint Replacement Surgery, the worn-out cartilage is replaced at both sides of the joint and is covered with a metal and plastic implant that has a similar appearance to the normal joint and works practically in the same way.

Oral Implantology

Oral Implantology

Oral Implantology is the specialty in Odontology practice responsible for the replacement of lost teeth by the surgical placement of implants in the maxillary or the jaw. Nowadays, it is considered one of the most efficient dental rehabilitation techniques.

The prosthetics come in several sizes and materials, and allow the restitution of chewing, phonetic and aesthetic functions, recovering proper oral structure and health. A dental implant is basically a screw made of pure titanium that, thanks to the biocompatibility achieved through a special treatment, it is capable of perfectly integrating into the corresponding bone structure. The application is completed using a connector and the cover or crown.

Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial Surgery is the medical and surgical specialty that focuses in the study, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of congenital or acquired conditions from the oral cavity, the facial bones, and the related cervical structures.

The Maxillofacial Surgeon has broad knowledge on oral and Maxillofacial Surgery that allows them to perform complicated extractions, bone inserts, and dental implants, among many other treatments.

Within the most common surgical procedures there are dental extractions, corrective jaw surgery (caused by Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ), maxillofacial fractures, incorrect bite, bruxism or teeth grinding), jaw reconstruction, and dental implants.
